Several key themes emerged, creating a powerful narrative of mentorship, community and innovation.
Mentorship was a recurring and frequently discussed theme. Many guests emphasized the significant impact of having mentors who offered guidance, support, and opened doors to new opportunities.
Kristen Dickinson, Project Manager for Executive Leadership at Train Technologies, described her experience of creating a personal Board of Directors: "I intentionally built a very diverse board of directors…they have different backgrounds they have different areas of expertise…as long as they give you helpful information and guidance, you’re great."
This strategic approach to mentorship shows its importance in both personal and professional development.
Community played a vital role in cultivating a sense of belonging and empowerment. Several guests spoke about the importance of finding their niche within the broader manufacturing landscape. Organisations like Women in Manufacturing (WIM) and Mothers in Manufacturing provide platforms for women to connect, share experiences and encourage one another.
Courtney Fernandez, Co-host of Automation Ladies, reflected on the value of online communities: "Finding online communities or people where you can get like-minded folks to geek out with and then ask their advice informs the way that you’re going to find your own trail."
These networks allow women to find support, exchange insights and navigate the intricacies of the industry together.
Innovation arose as a driving force behind the success of many Trailblazers. Guests discussed their involvement in developing cutting-edge technologies, implementing new processes and pushing the limits of what's possible in manufacturing.
Lauren Fitzpatrick, Founder and CEO of KeepWOL, shared her passion for gamification and its potential to transform employee engagement and development: “Gamification can be used as a really powerful tool to increase your ability to get critical feedback and get folks bought into the changes that need to happen.”
This pursuit of innovation goes beyond technology to encompass a broader vision for a more inclusive and equitable industry.
The final thoughts shared by many podcast guests resonated with a sense of optimism and resolve.
Mandy Sullivan, Logistics Manager at INEOS Joliet and community leader for the National Association of Women in Sales (NAWSP), left listeners with a powerful message: “If you think that you have something special, go for it.”
This call to action underscored the importance of pursuing one's passions and contributing unique talents to shape a brighter future for manufacturing.
The Trailblazers podcast series showcased the diverse experiences of women at the helm of a rapidly changing industry. Through their stories, they offered inspiration and guidance for future generations, proving that with dedication, resilience and a strong network of support, women can flourish and achieve remarkable success in manufacturing.
